Student Expectations
Our Student Ethos
At WPU Goa, we view our students not just as learners, but as active architects of their own growth and the vibrant ecosystem of our campus. Our expectations are designed to cultivate curiosity, responsibility, and ethical professionalism—qualities that prepare you for a dynamic world. Below, we expand on these core pillars, outlining what it means to thrive in our community and how these commitments will shape your experience.
A Culture of Inquiry and Discovery
We believe that true education sparks endless questions, not rote answers. In every class, we champion the “questioning mind”—a philosophy where curiosity is currency. Forget passive lectures; here, you’ll debate ideas, challenge assumptions, and co-create knowledge with peers and faculty. This isn’t optional—it’s the heartbeat of our classrooms, fostering resilience, adaptability, and innovative thinking that employers and global challenges crave.
To deepen this culture, every student joins a mandatory Living Learning Scholar Community (LLSC) , an intimate, high-commitment cohorts of 15-20 peers, guided by a dedicated faculty mentor. LLSCs aren’t just discussion groups; they’re launchpads for peer-to-peer learning, personalized mentorship, and hands-on execution of high-impact projects.
For balance and joy, we require participation in at least one student-led club. At WPU Goa, discovery isn’t confined to syllabi; it’s a daily adventure that builds lifelong learners who question boldly and create fearlessly.
Building Professional Identity
Your professional journey ignites on Day One at WPU Goa—we don’t wait for internships or capstones; we embed “Get Things Done” habits that turn ambition into action. Within your first two weeks, you’ll complete a foundational assignment: crafting a polished LinkedIn profile and launching a personal portfolio website. These are your digital storefronts, showcasing early projects, reflections, and skills to attract collaborators, mentors, and opportunities.
Leadership is woven into your everyday rhythm. From orientation, you’re invited to get involved. You get to join on committees like Discipline or Grievances to mediate conflicts and advocate for equity; or step up as a lead in your LLSC, coordinating project timelines and team dynamics. These roles aren’t add-ons—they’re essential training grounds for civic skills, teaching you to navigate consensus, ethical decision-making, and inclusive governance. Your voice doesn’t just echo; it shapes the campus we all share.
We champion a student-driven on-campus job culture, where opportunities abound in roles like event coordination, library tech support, or sustainability audits. These works are a deliberate practice in responsibility, time management, and global citizenship.
Mentorship
At WPU Goa, mentorship is the invisible scaffold supporting your boldest aspirations. A faculty member is your true “friend, philosopher, and guide”—from Day One. It’s an ongoing partnership tackling academic hurdles, logistical puzzles, and even psychological ebbs.
All institutional communication flows through approved University IT accounts. Personal mobile numbers, WhatsApp groups, or social media DMs with faculty or staff? Strictly off-limits. This isn’t about distance; it’s about dignity, equity, and focus—protecting everyone’s time and creating a safe space where ideas, not informal chats, take center stage. Breaches are addressed through restorative dialogues, reinforcing that ethical communication is the foundation of our collaborative community. In a world of blurred lines, we teach you to communicate with intention, building habits that earn respect in any professional arena.
By embracing these expectations, you’ll graduate not just with a degree, but with a toolkit for impact: a network of lifelong allies, a portfolio that speaks volumes, and the unshakeable confidence to “get things done” anywhere. We’re here to guide, challenge, and celebrate you every step welcome to the WPU Goa way.
Frequently Asked Questions
When does the application process begin?
The application process for Undergraduate programs for the Academic Year 2026 is currently active, with programs commencing in September 2026.
What is the eligibility for undergraduate programs?
Applicants must have completed (or be completing) 10+2 or an equivalent qualification with a minimum of 50% marks. Prior performance in exams like SAT or JEE is advantageous for scholarships but not mandatory.
What is the selection process?
The university uses a pioneering "ABC selection model" that
goes beyond conventional grades to evaluate:
- Agility and empathic responsiveness
- Benevolence and societal commitment
- Complexity and critical reasoning
Evaluation includes academic scores (9th–12th), demonstrated alignment with ABC pillars, and a personal interview. A composite score determines final decisions.
How does the admission process work?
Admission is a three-stage process. Stage 1 is the online application submission (personal details and academic scores). Stage 2 involves an online questionnaire and recorded video about the candidate’s interests and the university’s core values. Shortlisted applicants then have a 25–30-minute personal interview (Stage 3) to assess their qualifications and fit. Final decisions are based on a composite score that includes academic preparation (prior school scores), the university’s three core values (agility/empathy, broad-minded learning, and curiosity/cocreation), and interview performance.
Are there special criteria or requirements for international applicants?
Yes. In addition to the above, international applicants must meet English proficiency requirements (IELTS 6.0 or PTE 50, with no sub-scores below 5.5), unless they are native English speakers or have completed prior education in English. No other specific tests (like SAT or JEE) are required for admission, though strong scores in those exams may enhance scholarship consideration.
Is it mandatory to stay in the university hostel?
Yes, WPU Goa is a fully mandatory residential campus. This structure is designed to support Living Learning Scholar Communities (LLSCs) and 24/7 collaboration.
Are laptops mandatory?
Yes, students are required to bring their own laptops as the university operates a tech-enabled, digitally native learning environment.
Is there a uniform?
There is no prescribed uniform for everyday basis. On key university days a designated outfit is prescribed which must be adhered to by all students. On all other days, students can choose their own attire provided the chosen clothing is neat, appropriate and reflecting the dignity of academic setting.
Are national entrance exams like JEE or SAT mandatory?
While not essential for admission, prior performance in exams like SAT or JEE can be a plus for securing scholarships.
Can students apply with predicted scores?
Yes. Students awaiting final results may apply using predicted or provisional scores, subject to meeting minimum eligibility requirements upon final result declaration.
How does WPU Goa help students discover the right career path?
Rather than forcing early career decisions, WPU Goa allows students to explore interests across domains, reflect through mentorship, and make informed choices over time. Career clarity emerges through experience, not pressure.
Why does WPU Goa not admit students solely on the basis of entrance test scores or Class 12 marks?
Because academic scores alone do not measure curiosity, resilience, empathy, creativity, leadership potential, or the ability to solve complex real-world problems. WPU Goa seeks students who can grow into responsible leaders, not just test-takers.
What is the reason for adopting a holistic admission process?
Holistic admissions process ensure that students admitted are academically capable and personally aligned with the demands of an intensive, immersive, residential education model.
Why does WPU Goa emphasise adaptability and curiosity so strongly?
Because careers today evolve faster than curricula. Graduates must be able to learn, unlearn, and relearn across their lives. Adaptability and curiosity are essential for sustained success in a rapidly changing world.
Will a WPU Goa student be as competitive as students from traditional universities?
Yes. WPU Goa students are designed to be competitive in a different and increasingly valued way. While traditional universities often emphasize depth within a single discipline, WPU Goa develops depth plus cross-domain fluency, enabling graduates to operate effectively in complex, real-world environments where problems do not arrive neatly categorized.
Is WPU Goa suitable for high-achieving students who could enter traditional universities?
Yes. WPU Goa is especially suited for high-achieving students who seek more than exam-driven success, students who want intellectual challenge, global exposure, leadership development, and the freedom to shape their own academic and career trajectory.

This structure is designed to eliminate hidden costs and provide clarity and predictability to parents and students.
What scholarships and fee waivers are available?
WPU Goa offers a range of merit- and category-based scholarships. Special scholarships are available for gender diversity (female, transgender, or non-binary students), geographic diversity(students from North-East India, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, or international students from least-developed countries), and social inclusion (students from SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy) or EWS backgrounds), as well as for differently-abled students, wards of martyrs, single-parent households, first-generation college students, and others. There is also a dedicated International Student Scholarship with tuition waivers based on the applicant’s home country: for example, 70% waiver for students from least developed countries, 50% for those from other developing economies. Applicants who indicate interest in scholarships during admission are automatically considered by the Scholarship Committee.
What are the eligibility criteria for scholarships?
Eligibility depends on the scholarship. Generally, incoming students with strong academic records and/or belonging to the above categories may qualify. The Scholarship Committee makes selections based on merit and category quotas. Note that having a high score on exams like SAT or JEE is not required for admission but can strengthen scholarship applications.
How do I maintain my scholarship?
Scholarship recipients must maintain good academic and conduct standing. Specifically, students must earn at least a GPA of 6.0 each semester, pass all courses on the first attempt, remain continuously enrolled with no academic breaks, and adhere to the University Code of Conduct. Any disciplinary violations or failure to meet these requirements can result in losing the scholarship.
Are there other financial aid or loan options?
Yes. MIT-WPU Goa has tied up with banks to offer collateral-free education loans (typically up to ₹7.5 lakhs or more) for tuition, hostel, and academic expenses. These unsecured loans have competitive interest rates, zero processing fees, and flexible repayment (with moratorium until after graduation). Additionally, from Year 2 onwards students can join the Assistantship Program to earn income while studying: they work 300–500 hours per year in academic or administrative roles and receive about ₹200 per hour as a stipend. These roles (e.g. peer tutoring, lab assistance, event coordination) also build professional skills.
What is not included in the annual fee?
The annual fee does not include visa processing charges, hostel room upgrades, books and personal study materials, printing and stationery, snacks or à-la-carte food items, personal travel during vacations, laptops or personal electronic devices, advanced medical treatments or hospitalisation, expenses related to internships, international semester-long exchange programs, professional examination or certification fees, additional academic credits beyond program norms, fines or penalties, replacement of lost documents or ID cards, or costs arising from damage or loss of university property or equipment.
Are scholarships available beyond the first year?
